AWESOME!!! That's all there needs to be said about the OSU defense. Purdue, averaging nearly 46 points a game, got a garbage TD with 10 seconds in the game (by our 2nd team defense). Joe Tiller's "Basketball on Grass" approach had no answer for the stingy Buckeye "D". The Buckeye circus came into town and enjoyed the atmosphere that West Lafayette had to offer. Thank you to the 50 fans that came out to watch OSU thump another opponent. Also, $163 was raised from the raffle and 101 spiral notebooks were collected for our school project. Great results all around for a Saturday night. Also, thanks to John Crossmock, Paul Malanga and Greg Jones for helping out with the raffle. There were some great prizes that were given away. The food was great and everyone had a fantastic time at the Boilermakers expense.

The first two OSU drives were easy scores. Ray Small is coming into his own as the next big playmaker. John Crossmock told me that Small would come up big for the Buckeyes and he did just that with a beautiful 26 yard TD catch. Small, who finished with 6 receptions for 70 yards and a score, is finally healthy after sitting out the first two games with a high ankle sprain. He's becoming a major contributor in the passing game. Did I mention he has speed to go along with his route running? He's scary!!

Speaking of ankles, "Beanie "Wells had to be assisted off the field in the third quarter because of his nagging left ankle. If I was the "Sweater Vest", I'd rest him until Michigan State on 10/20. That way, we'll be back into Big 10 conference play and it'll give that ankle time to heal. We're going to need him 100% down the stretch.

I'm sure glad Anderson Russell doesn't play receiver. His hands are like bricks. He dropped two catch-able passes from Purdue's Curtis Painter. That gives him at least 6 maybe 7 drops this season (that's being generous on my part). There were at least 7 potential INT that the defense could have easily had.

Todd Boeckman had a second half to forget. Although his first INT wasn't that bad, the other two were. He was getting VERY greedy on trying to go deep instead of trying to throw short and stretch Purdue a little bit. He also needs to handle the ball better with that "incompletion" he had. Good thing the upstairs zebras reversed the fumble call and awarded us the ball. He's still a work in progress.

Marcus Freeman has shown improvement over the last two weeks. Brent Musberger was calling his name quite often in the first half. Solid tackling for losses really gave the Boilermakers fits out there. Along with Larry Grant and the "Little Animal", the linebacker trio is fun to watch.

Luckybuck's Helmet Sticker Player of the Game: The entire OSU "D". They held the Boilermakers to 272 yards of total offense (4 yards rushing). Which was about 215+ yards below their season average. I'm sure JT will make sure that there are LOTS of Buckeye leaves for the "D" to wear next week.

On tap: The Buckeyes come back home to the 'Shoe to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes in non-conference action. It's another edition of "Breakfast with the Buckeyes" as kick-off is set for 11:00am on the Big Ten Network. Don't forget your colored pencils as we look to "Electrify the Golden Flashes". Have a great week.

GO BUCKS!!!
